Bonnie Friedman Scholarship

MISSION

The Bonnie Friedman Scholarship Fund awards a scholarship to a senior at Downingtown East or West High School who is pursing a degree in education. The scholarship is based on financial need and will be awarded annually for four years.

The Fund was established to honor the legacy of Bonnie Friedman. Bonnie was a graduate of Grove City College where she earned a BA in teaching. She taught in the Downingtown School District for 22 years. After she retired, she couldn’t give up teaching and became a tutor and eventual Board member of the Volunteer English Program of Chester County. During her time with VEP, she taught students from Japan, Cambodia, Turkey, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. For many students, Bonnie was not only their tutor but a valued mentor and friend who guided and supported them in numerous ways.
