Mission Statement

The Brett Mickens Scholorship Fund was established by Dr. Levi Wingard and Mr. Harlan Smith to fund a scholarship to be awarded to a student in the Downingtown Area School District who is pursuing post secondary education at a college and/or a trade school.

About Brett…
Brett Alexander Mickens was born on July 31, 1964 and he accomplished much during the 47 years he lived.  This devoted husband, father of five, and loving grandfather was also a valued colleague, friend and community leader. Brett was a 1983 graduate of West Chester East High School and also matriculated at Lincoln University.

 He was an exceptionally skilled Technology Associate whose professional resume’ included service with the Downingtown  Area School District, the Chester County Intermediate Unit and the New York City Board of Education. Brett was a devout Christian who attended St. Paul’s Baptist Church in West Chester and New Life in Christ Fellowship in Coatesville. He also served as Junior Warden of Harmony Lodge #21 of the West Chester Prince Hall Free and Accepted Masons.

 Brett was always there to help his family and friends; he never started a task he failed to complete
nor made a promise he failed to keep.

Brett died suddenly on November 16, 2011.
