Mission Statement

Our contribution to La’s Foundation will create a lasting tribute to commemorate La’s courage, determination, passion, love for others and love for life. La’s family will make grants to charitable causes that help young people afflicted with lung cancer and other forms of cancer. Grants will be made to honor causes that were important to La during her life, including soccer, lacrosse, athletics, and animal welfare. Scholarships will also be awarded to young women at Henderson High School in West Chester, PA and Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA.

About La…
A graduate of Henderson High School in West Chester, PA and Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA, Laura passed away in June 2008 from lung cancer. She is survived by her husband, Steve Koch, Drexel’s associate director of athletics, whom she met at Drexel.

Known as one of the greatest players in Drexel women’s soccer history, Laura left an outstanding legacy. She played for Drexel’s soccer team, the Dragons, from 1998 to 2001 and left as Drexel’s all-time leader in goals and points. Dan Simmons, associate athletic director of recreation, said, “I remember her at the end of her career. She was the type of person you wanted on a Drexel team. She was always full of energy and always smiling.”

After graduating Drexel in 2002, Koch worked for the Veterinary Referral Center in Frazer, a 24-hour emergency care center, and loved to nurture animals.

To preserve her exemplary legacy, each year La’s #9 jersey is wore by the woman who displays the traits that define the way Laura lived her life and played on the field. Drexel is currently fundraising to build The Laura Koch Memorial Locker Room which will become the home of women’s soccer at Drexel.

Congratulations to our 2024 Scholarship Recipient:
