About the Fund
The Kathy Clark Flamm Scholarship Fund was created by Sue White Villarini – Kathy’s lifelong friend, Henderson High School graduate and fellow Nurse Practitioner – and Bruce Flamm, a former board member of Chester County Community Foundation. This scholarship fund is in honor of Kathy who passed away from COVID in April 2020 while protecting and caring for her patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kathy graduated at the top of her high school class at Henderson High School and was accepted at the University of Pennsylvania graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
She worked as an RN in Presbyterian-University of Pennsylvania Medical Center before returning to Penn to earn her Master’s Degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner. Her career as a Nurse Practitioner in primary care and in elder care were her greatest career passions. Kathy’s commitment to her patients and pride in her profession was always evident, even while she was battling her own physical disabilities from a debilitating stroke in 2005. She is an exceptional role model, particularly for all future nurses!
This scholarship shall be awarded yearly to a Henderson High School graduating senior who meets the following criteria:
- Applying to a BSN Nursing Program
- GPA >3.0
- Demonstrates financial need
- Demonstrates the qualities of empathy, resilience in the face of hardship, and acceptance of diversity.
- Involvement in community or social services that help those less fortunate
Samantha Martin of the class of 2021 was the first recipient of the scholarship. See video clip below.
