The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF) is pleased to award $12,000 to Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine to be used for educational purposes.

Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine’s mission is to advance veterinary medicine at the interface of discovery and application. They promote research at the molecular, cellular, organismal, and population levels to better inform the practice of medicine, public health, and policy. Cornell is dedicated to excellence in research, educational programs, and professional service, and seeks to advance understanding of both animal and human health, foster open collaboration across disciplines and institutional boundaries, and integrate discovery with application.

In the past, TERF generously awarded grants for need-based scholarships for students interested in pursuing equine medicine. In alignment with their mission to support and promote equine education by supporting organizations that are educating the public on the proper care of horses, TERF continues to offer their financial assistance in 2021. Cornell University will use the grant for two need-based scholarships totaling $12,000 ($6,000 each) for students interested in pursuing equine medicine after graduation. The scholarship recipients pictured below are Bianca Ruspi and Tyler Olson.

Sheila Reakes, Director of Annual Giving at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine states, “The Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine is very grateful for the support TERF is providing to its students, especially those planning to pursue equine medicine.  The availability of scholarships has become increasingly important in helping graduates lower their debt load and in allowing them to consider a broader array of careers, including those in more rural areas where quality veterinarians are much needed, upon graduation.”

TERF’s grants reflect the values set forth by founders Herb and Ellen Moelis. TERF’s current board includes co-chairs Kathleen Anderson DVM and James Orsini DVM, Margaret H. Duprey, Gretchen and Roy Jackson, Ellen and Herb Moelis, Wendy Moon, Anita Motion, Toni Orsini, Scott Palmer VMD, Josh Pons, Lucy Zungailia, Katelyn Jackson, and Lynn Cassimeris, Ph.D.
