June 5, 2023   The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation’s (TERF) application for research grants is due June 30, 2023. With the vision and mission of bettering the life of Thoroughbreds, TERF primarily aims to support students in pursuit of education in equine industry careers and to fund research efforts which better the life of the Thoroughbred racehorse. The missions and programs of the organizations selected to receive this year’s research grant awards will reflect TERF’s strategic focus and vision to support and promote equine education and research. Robert H. Erb (West Chester, PA – May 22, 2023): The Jonas C., Marian D., and Robert H. Erb Charitable Fund has announced its first round of grants to local nonprofits. Three local nonprofits have been selected by the Erb Charitable Fund advisors to advance literacy, library services, and other education programs: One Book One Program, care of the Literacy Council of Norristown, received a $50,000 grant by the Erb Charitable Fund. (WEST CHESTER, PA – May 10, 2023): On June 19th, 1865, the last group of enslaved Black Americans were freed by the Union in Galveston, Texas. That event became the oldest holiday in the US known today as Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery in the US. The enslaved people of Galveston did  not find out about their freedom two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed and two months after the end of the Civil War.
