February 3, 2023 The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF) is pleased to announce the awarding of a $10,000 research grant to the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, Inc. The funding will support the work of Dr. Sue Stover at the University of California for research involving motion of the proximal sesamoid bones. The research project will examine how uneven footing, hoof conformation, shoeing, and uneven racetrack surfaces could contribute to fetlock breakdowns. January 13, 2023 The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF) is pleased to award the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF) $10,000 to be used for educational purposes. TRF’s mission is to rescue ex-racehorses, no longer able to compete at the racetrack, from neglect, abuse, and slaughter. Furthermore, TRF collaborates with correctional facilities in eight states to provide vocational training to inmates who, in turn, care for horses that are not suitable for second athletic careers. December 15, 2022 The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF) is pleased to award $4,000 to the MidAtlantic Horse Rescue Inc. (MAHR) for educational purposes. MAHR’s mission is to rescue thoroughbreds from feed lots and kill pens and transition horses directly off the track. After quarantine and careful evaluation, horses are adopted into loving homes as sport horses and pets.
