February 26, 2025 – The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF) is pleased to announce the opening of their 2025 grant awards cycle. With the vision and mission of bettering the life of Thoroughbreds, TERF primarily aims to support students in pursuit of education in equine industry careers and to fund research efforts that better the life of the Thoroughbred racehorse. The missions and programs of the organizations selected to receive this year’s grant awards will reflect TERF’s strategic focus and vision to support and promote equine education and research.
Awards will be considered for qualified federally tax-exempt 501-c-3 organizations. Information regarding the grant award program can be found at www.terfusa. org. Grant applications will be accepted now through April 1, 2025, for applications about equine education and scholarship support and June 30, 2025, for research grant funding applications.
The Board of Directors of TERF carefully selects grant recipients in a competitive grant-making process. Grant recipients will receive written notice of TERF’s acceptance of their funding request and notice via phone or e-mail by June 30th of the application year for education and scholarship support and not later than September 1st for research grant awards. In 2024, TERF awarded $61,500 in education grants to seven organizations and $47,015 in research grants for three research projects.
TERF’s grants reflect the values founders Herb and Ellen Moelis set forth. TERF’s current Board includes Co-Chairs Kathleen Anderson, DVM, and James Orsini, DVM, Lynne Cassimeris, Ph.D., Margaret H. Duprey, Gretchen and Roy Jackson, Katelyn Jackson, Cory Moelis, Ellen Moelis, Wendy Moon, Anita Motion, Scott Palmer, VMD, and Josh Pons.
